Spodosols or podzols are soils commonly formed from quartz sandy parent materials. They are characterized by a peculiar horizon sequence: an organic surface horizon O, a weathered grey eluvial E horizon, and a dark brownish-reddish illuvial B horizon, which is enriched by Al, Fe and organic matter (OM) (called Bh, Bhs or Bs). |
